THE SPACE AROUND PLAY

A fan’s guide to the movement, pressure and little openings that make a small court feel big.

01 / WATCH THE GAME

THE BALL IS ONLY PART OF THE PICTURE.

When a player receives, look beyond the first defender. Teammates are already creating the next pass, covering space, and changing the shape of the court.

01

Find the pressure

Who closes down the player with the ball? That first defender often tells you where the next opening may appear.

02

Spot the support

Look for a teammate offering a clear passing angle. In a tight space, a few steps can make the difference between keeping the ball and losing it.

03

Watch the next run

The most useful movement may happen away from the ball. A run can pull a defender aside and open a lane for someone else.

02 / THE SHAPE OF A TEAM

FOUR OUTFIELD ROLES. ONE SHARED COURT.

Futsal roles give players a starting point, not a fixed address. The ball moves; the team adjusts around it.

THE BASE

Fixo

Often the deepest outfield player, offering cover and helping the team build from the back.

THE WIDE OPTION

Alas

Wide players who stretch the court, connect passes and recover quickly when possession changes.

THE FORWARD LINK

Pivot

A forward option who can receive under pressure, protect the ball and bring teammates into play.

The goalkeeper is the fifth player and an active part of the team’s build-up. At amateur level, the exact shape changes with the players and the moment.
